Allison Krauss

I’ve decided not to look at this as an injustice, but rather a great opportunity for my brother and sister-in-law to expand their listening library even further – though they already have one of the most eclectic music collections I know of anyway. This weekend they are attending a concert by Allison Krauss and Robert Plant.  Now, while I could take or leave Robert Plant’s involvement in many cases, I’m a big fan of Allison Krauss.  Some of the pieces from their album collaboration in 2007 , Raising Sand, are better than others.  Allison’s album (2007) A Hundred Miles or More: A Collection, is one of my favorite albums in years. In honor of Alex and Nichole’s evening out, here’s a list of some songs I’d love to hear Allison sing in person…

  • Down to the River to Pray
  • Whiskey Lullaby (with Brad Paisley)
  • Jacob’s Dream (This song is sad, but it’s one of my favorites.)
  • When You Say Nothing at All  (Mark and I had this one sung at our wedding.)
  •  Molly Ban
  •  Teardrops Will Kiss the Morning Dew
  • Oh Atlanta
  • Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us (w/Robert Plant)
  • Simple Love
  • Your Long Journey (w/Robert Plant)

I’d also like to hear her cover a few of Nanci Griffith’s older tunes too.

  • Going Back to Georgia
  • Gulf Coast Highway
  • The Wing and the Wheel
  • It’s Just Another Morning Here
  • Ford Econoline

I think this would make for a pretty good show.  I hope they have a splendid time on Saturday night.

Mermaid Song

Mermaid

The rehearsals are over.  The final curtain has closed, and we are in the “recovery” stages of this year’s dance performance. Sophie was a mermaid and a small crocodile in the York County Ballet’s spring production of Peter Pan.  I do not have the photos of the crocodile costume.  Sam, my budding Jr. photographer,  took those and we’ll get them later.  So, for now we will have to make do with a selection of photos of the mermaid.  None of the photos are from the actual performance.  Apparently the “flying system” they employed for Peter was hush-hush.  Sophie did a splendid job, though she was constantly peering into the audience for a familiar face.  I’m sure that will wear off by next year.  :)Mermaid IIThe Gowndsc_0073.JPGWils and FlowersSophie and Peter

    Boiling H2O

It’s been a day and a half here.  This was the last day of our spring CoOp, and somehow I was on deck to teach two classes.  Someone else wanted to go to the beach at the last minute, so I got to teach an art class today. After teaching, there was a planning meeting, a trip home to pick up Claire from the baby sitter, a trip back to CoOp to pick up Sam-Soph-and-Wils, and then a play day at the local park.

When we finally did get home, Claire decided to sleep for 27 minutes, Soph and Wils rested for about 19 1/2 minutes, and Sam decided to catch the end of A NEW HOPE in their absence.

So, what will we eat for dinner?  Last night was devoted to lesson preparation, so there wasn’t any crock pot meal in the works.  I think that we’ll try this,  pasta dish courtesy of the Emeril and the Food Network. I just started to boil the water….

    What’s for dinner tonight?

Over the last few weeks, I’ve tried several new main dish dinner recipes.  Three of the four were definately worth repeating, one was not.  Try one or two out for yourself.  These came from Southern Living and MyRecipes.

      Beef Lombardi

      Fiesta Taco Lasagna

      Mexican Lasagna

We won’t be trying All-In-One Spaghetti again.  I suspected that the noodles in this might not perform well, and I was right.  Not one of my better productions, but I’m going to blame some of it on the recipe.

    What’s up with this?

The new official olympic swim suits are out, the Lzr.  I believe it stands for “laser” because the swimmers should be able to cut through the water so much more effortlessly.  I’ll say this – I hope they aren’t made available to the general public.  This could be MUCH worse that lycra leggings and crocheted over-tops ever were.  Take a look. No, wait… don’t look.  These should come with a rating system.  We might as well just spray them down with silicone and let them go – Who needs a suit?  YIKES!  Did I mention that the ladies will also wear the suit?  Odd that the color blocks should be so strategically placed.
